If you sometimes wonder when it's okay to tell a little white lie or when it's better to 'fess up, don't feel like the Lone Ranger. Most people are guilty of fibbing, but if it's become a habit, it might be time for some soul searching. Discover where you rate in the lying game by answering these questions:
You want to skip your neighbor's party, and say:
A) We may come by if other plans don't interfere.
B) Sorry but there's been a death in the family.
C) We already have plans, so please count us out.
Your husbands cooks a disastrous dinner, and you say:
A) I think we should order some takeout.
B) I never knew you were such a terrific cook.
C) The food is incredible and so are you.
Your best pal gets an awful hairdo, and you say:
A) That cut really ages you.
B) Who is your hairdresser? I'm making an appointment.
C) You look great as usual. Now tell me about your new boyfriend.
Your mother-in-law gives you a grotesquely ugly dress for your birthday, and you say:
A) That's the most repulsive gift I've ever received.
B) I hope it fits because I think it'll look great on me.
C) Thanks for an outfit that's sure to draw attention.
Analysis
Mostly "a" - You're so brutally honest that you often cause winces among family and friends. Temper your obsession for truth with a bit of tact to alleviate hurt feelings.
Mostly "b" - You'll stretch the truth to make others happy, but your over the top responses often sound forced. Try sticking a little closer to reality.
Mostly "c" - You've mastered the balance between harsh honesty and an outright lie. Although you keep people's feelings in mind, you don't sacrifice your integrity.
