Some Like It From A Can, Some A Bottle...Me? A 40 Foot Bong!

What is it?
A 40-foot beer bong called the Tower of Power!

Where did it come from?
Donnie Wedding, a firefighter from Fredericksburg, Virginia, and his friends built it on their summer vacation in Corolla, North Carolina.

How did they make it?
They took 40 feet of half-inch tubing and stuck a quarter-turn valve in the end with some smaller piping. Then they put a funnel in the other end and hung it off the balcony.

How much beer does it hold?
According to Donnie—or “DLW” to his buds—about three beers, though, “you don’t think you're drinking that much, ’cause it goes down so quick and smooth. Then suddenly you’re like, ‘Man, I just did three beers in 20 seconds.’ ”

How do you feel after using it?
Buzzed! “It’s pretty gnarly,” grins DLW. “You want to pace yourself—I definitely wouldn’t recommend anyone doing it, like, every 10 minutes. I don’t know if they’d be able to. They’d just throw up because their stomach wouldn’t be able to hold it all…”

So I should try and make one of these?
Sure! But don’t be tempted to use wider tubing to get more beer in. “When it’s that high in the air, the head pressure is too much,” warns Donnie. “We tried using a bigger hose, but literally nobody could swallow it that fast. It’s one thing to use a one-inch tube when it’s only 24 inches long, but when it’s 40 feet in the air, there’s no way. You end up wasting a lot of it.” Guys, listen to this man: He’s a firefighter. He knows about hoses.
